What is the IICRC?

The IICRC, stands for the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning & Restoration Certification. It was Originally Founded in 1972 with over 50,000 members. Here’s its mission.

The Mission of the IICRC is to establish and advance globally recognized standards and certifications for the inspection, cleaning, restoration and installation industries.

The IICRC serves as a independent, certification body, that sets and promotes high standards and ethics, and advances communication and technical proficiency within the inspection, cleaning and restoration industries. The IICRC also ensures that when consumers hire a cleantrust-Certified Firm or technician, they have hired experts who will provide reasonable assurance that work will be completed in accordance with the industry’s “standard of care.”

While IICRC represents our industry in different ways, their mission has always been to train technicians within our industry. IICRC holds its standards when it comes to water damage restoration.

What is involved in an IICRC certification?

The IICRC offers advanced training programs to address every part of a property. Whether it’s the cleaning of flooded carpets or taking care of mold damage, the IICRC has a specific training on any situation. A technician must attend a multi-day class in which it is hands on training. At the end of the course, a written examination takes place. Once, passing the exam, a technicians certification is given. And like any other industry, continuing education must occur to maintain an IICRC to keep up to date with new methods.

Why does an IICRC certification matter?

Most states require licensing for industry trades in which health and safety might be at risk. Industries like electrical contracting and plumbing our two of the top industries. When it comes to water mitigation there is no licensing required by the state, which means that literally anyone can start a water damage restoration company without any skills.

However, when it comes to water mitigation the chances of health being impacted our huge. If the job isn’t done right, the chances of your home developing a serious toxic mold problem are huge. If you don’t know much about mold and health effects. Then, there is just too much on the line to trust the health of your family to someone who doesn’t know what they are doing.
